La Terrazza Bordertown Wine Dinner

On Friday, October 19 we had the pleasure of being highly entertained by Guilio Miceli, one of the really engaging owners of La Terrazza, an Italian fine dining restaurant in Yaletown.

Bordertown jumped at the opportunity to partner with La Terrazza for a co hosted Wine Dinner to celebrate the best food that Italy offers, expertly paired with our wines.

Held at gorgeous La Terrazza, a restaurant with thirty foot ceilings, hand painted frescos and a huge wine cellar, and a beautiful private dining area, the evening included an exceptional 5 course menu and exquisite wine pairings.

We had a truly authentic Italian culinary experience!

Highly engaging Guilio was the most wonderful host of the evening welcomed us to join him in a beautiful private dining area with a long table and leatherback chairs surrounded by walls of wine!

We began our culinary adventure with “Capesante” – seared cinnamon dusted Alaskan scallop.

Next, we were treated to “Salmone,” salmon tartare with black garlic aioli served in the most miniature sugar cone- absolutely delicious with Bordertown’s Gruner Veltliner 2016.

Many of the guests had never heard of Gruner Veltliner, some had tried this wonderful wine in Austria and they were very impressed!

During our “Primo” course, Executive Chef Gennado expertly paired our Pinot Gris 2016 with Tonna Crudo- seared yellow fin tuna.

Throughout the evening, Bordertown team member Paul Jordan provided the history of Bordertown and shared some highlights of the winemaking process and the winery’s accolades and future plans.

Paul’s knowledge and expertise truly displayed how passionate we are here at Bordertown about our winemaking process!

Next, our Cabernet Franc 2016 was wonderfully paired with “Secondo,” a pretty braised rabbit ravioli.

“Terzo” a char grilled quail breast was nestled in a perfect taleggio risotto, expertly paired with Bordertown’s Living Desert Red 2015.

“Quarto,” a sous-vide lamb tenderloin on a pretty foie gras tartlet was paired with our Merlot Reserve 2015.

We finished our meal with a wonderful “Torta di Zucca, a seasonally perfect spiced pumpkin tartlet surrounded by delicious made from the heart salted caramel gelato.

Each and every course was a balance between simplicity and elegance- a highly memorable dinner!

Guilio invited one of the guests, Mark Taylor, a wine critic and wine judge to provide some very wonderful feedback about the wines we tasted throughout the evening!

We would like to extend a huge thank you to Gulio, Executive Chef Gennaro, Chef Tim and the entire La Terrazza team for entertaining our guests and providing the quintessential Italian fine dining experience that truly WOWED our guests!
