Syrah is a grape that has been quietly fulfilling extraordinary promise in the South Okanagan, and Bordertown’s estate bottling is among the most distinctive examples of what this desert terroir can produce with this bold, brooding variety.

Syrah is a grape that the Gill family has always felt holds extraordinary promise in the southern Okanagan — and this 2020 vintage is the proof. Aged in new and seasoned American oak barrels, this Syrah opens with a lovely nose of violets and black fruits that immediately sets it apart. On the palate it is chalk full of berry flavours, pepper and savoury notes — juicy, velvety smooth and full of rich texture.

Rated 93 points by John Schreiner — the highest score in the current Bordertown main label portfolio. The wine has also earned a Silver Medal at the Pacific Rim Wine Competition 2024, a Silver Medal at the LA International Wine Competition 2024, a Silver Medal at the All Canadian Wine Championships 2023, and a Silver Medal at the National Wine Align Awards 2023. Four silvers across four of the wine world’s major competitions in a single vintage is a remarkable achievement.

Syrah’s black fruit, pepper and savoury character make it an outstanding companion for anything cooked over fire. Slow-smoked brisket or BBQ ribs are the natural match — the wine’s character resonates with the smoke in a way that feels entirely natural. It’s equally impressive alongside lamb kofta with harissa, five-spice duck breast, spicy sausage pizza and cassoulet.
